What training will I receive before becoming a TAB Agent?
To ensure you hit the ground running as a TAB Agent, Racing and Wagering WA will coordinate a comprehensive blended learning development program. The program will be a combination of on-line self learning modules, agency familiarisation (practical exposure to TAB operations) and tailored face to face learning.
At the end of the New Agent Development Program, a prospective Agent will be able to perform all duties necessary to efficiently and effectively operate a TAB agency.
The training course is structured over a few weeks, involving self study and online prerequisites. There will be three weeks which will combine online study, agency familiarisation and face to face learning in our specially equipped learning centre designed for the optimum learning experience. .
BACK TO TOPHow much should I pay for a TAB agency?
As TAB licences are sold on the open market, RWWA has no input into the sale price of TAB licences. RWWA strongly recommends that all applicants seek advice from an independent business valuer to ensure long term satisfaction with the final purchase price paid.
The valuation must depict an accurate representation of the current value of the business and consider both:
- Agency Operational Costs
- Agency Sales and Commission Trends
What are the average Operational Costs to run a TAB agency?
RWWA typically works on $25,000 p.a. as the operational cost to run an agency (not including casual wages).
BACK TO TOPCan I buy half a TAB licence or multiple TAB licences?
The TAB retail network is comprised of ‘Sole Traders’ and ‘50% Partnerships’.
RWWA, at its own discretion, may allow Agents to own multiple TAB licences in the future.
BACK TO TOPHow do partnerships work in a TAB licence?
Partnerships are reliant on good communication and clear, unified goals. RWWA strongly recommends that all 50% Agents enter into a partnership agreement which generally stipulates items such as:
- The rights and responsibilities of each partner
- Remuneration / commission sharing
- Regular working arrangement i.e. week on/off or other
- Peak period staffing / holiday relief
- Conflict resolution
Do partnerships require a joint bank account and ABN?
Yes. For the purposes of operating an agency, partnerships are viewed as a single entity. Accordingly, RWWA requires partnerships to have a joint ABN and bank account in place for financial purposes including weekly settlement.
BACK TO TOPHow does a partnership share the weekly TAB commission?
This is something that needs to be agreed in your partnership agreement as there are external forces such as pay / pension weeks, Melbourne Cup week etc. that can vary an agency commission payable. Both partners are working together to ensure the success of the business as a whole and as such appropriate sharing of commission and running costs are required.
BACK TO TOPHow many hours are TABs open?
For the average agency, there are approximately 100 hours of operational agency hours required per week. This includes:
-
The agency being open for 70 plus hours
-
Opening set up and closing clean up time
-
Peak hours where two operators are required
